In the competitive cutting tool industry, suppliers need to set themselves apart from the competition.
Sandvik Coromant is taking that concept to heart at the Canadian Manufacturing Technology Show, which kicked off today, October 17, and runs until October 20, at the Direct Energy Centre.
“Smart Hub is not just a booth. We wanted to take it to the next level and create an atmosphere where people want to be,” explains Kevin Lorch, marketing manager for Sandvik Coromant Canada, Mississauga, ON. “The idea behind Sandvik Coromant’s Smart Hub was to create something from the customers’ point of view.”
It’s all about service and anticipating the needs of customers. It’s not about a direct sell of cutting tools, but selling solutions and generating ideas for customers to help them improve their productivity. For instance, customers are able to recharge their cell phones at a charging station in the booth. Digital technology plays a big role in the Smart Hub.
“When we envisioned what we would be doing at CMTS with the Smart Hub, we thought of the customer of the future. We asked ourselves â€˜how is the customer changing and evolving?’ The new generation does everything electronically, so we need to understand this and respond to these needs,” explains Lorch.
For instance, Staff are equipped with iPads to show customers three apps, including one new for manufacturing economics being tested for the first time worldwide.
It’s hard to miss Sandvik Coromant’s tall, bright yellow display, but in case you haven’t hit the show floor yet, the company is located at Booth 2538.
If you’re making products for the aerospace or power generation markets, you should take in the market-specific displays too.
