Okuma's summer showcase event in Charlotte, NC

Okuma held its 2017 Summer Showcase event July 19-20 at its North American headquarters in Charlotte, NC. More than 200 customers from 100 companies attended the event. Okuma created a video to highlight the event.

The Government of Canada has committed to supporting the country's shipbuilding industry with an eight-year, $800 million contract for Thales Canada Inc. and Thales Australia Ltd. that will help support the Arctic and Offshore Patrol Ships and Joint Support Ships. The investment means shipbuilding companies such as Irving Shipbuilding and Seaspan's Vancover Shipyards will be building ships in Canada to support the commitment.

MicroStep plasma cutting

MicroStep is expanding its North American presence with the launch of a new subsidiary, MicroStep USA. The Slovakian based manufacturer of CNC cutting machines such as plasma and oxyfuel machines, laser utting, waterjet and pipe and profile cutting machines, expanded in Canada in 2015 with the opening of its Canadian subsidiary, MicroStep Canada, headed by president Kal Shergill and based in Burlington, ON.

Vehicle sales surge in Canada

Canada's automotive industry continues to post solid gains, with several major automotive companies posting sales gains and one automotive parts manufacturer posting a 6.6 per cent sales increase in its second quarter over the 2016 quarter.

Wilson Tool's newest manufacturing plant in Canada, a 4,366 sq m (47,000 sq ft) facility in Toronto, is one of seven production facilities the company operates around the around the globe, and it's one of two operations in Canada.
